Why The Hell Do These Things Matter?!

Explanation:

My topic is whether or not Marijuana has become too mainstream these days. My answer, is yes. What's my reasoning? Well, let's look back at all my posts so far, that delve into the anthropologist side to marijuana. We started off exploring the world, seeing the different kinds of traditions from China, Jamaica, and India that involve the plant. We learned that weed, before people started smoking it, was used in clothes, ropes, and a power to drive away the bad spirits. It was then learned that you could extract the oil and put it in medicine. So, basically from weed we have clothes, rope, medicine, and lots and lots more stuff that people use everyday. And that's okay! I'm completely pro using weed as what it was meant to be used as; something beneficial that can lead to the discovery of new things (medicines, rope, clothes, etc). However, it's when you take it and use it as a drug that I put my foot down. The Summerians believed that smoking pot would put them in touch with god and give them courage; personally, I think that's stupid. It didn't put them in touch with god; it just let them listen to what they were really feeling. And as for the courage part? Bull. If they needed help being courageous, then there sure as hell would have been something else back then for that. I know that was a long time ago, but I mean come on. It's weed. Plants aren't meant to be smoked.

Now, let's not get me started on India and Jamaica. Too late. I'm starting. Indians drink weed. I know I know, it's part of their culture and I have no right to critisize it. But seriously? It's a plant. Not only that, but they use it in "tantric sex acts". Like they can't get pleasure from just regular sex? They gotta go get high first? Where's the love and passion in that? I don't see it. And what if they get so high that they don't know what the hell they're doing? What if they have diseases or don't use a condom? Yes, lots of what ifs. That's why regular, plain old fashion sex is the way to go. In my opinion, of course.

We also have to look at the history again. In 1938, the production of cannabis was banned. It's use was not needed anymore, and the demand for cotton surpassed the demand for weed. Even with medicine, weed looks like it has run its course. Yes, it was popular as medicine between 1800 and 1900, but in the early 1890's doctors discovered Aspirin, and weed was not needed yet again. My biggest problem is that, in 1915 Marijuana first became an official drug. According to the dictionary, a drug is a habit-forming medicinal or illicit substance, especially a narcotic. Since it's already a drug, a big no no, then why in the world do people want to try to make it legal now?! A drug is a drug. It has the exact same effects as it did in the past; are you saying our ancestors are wrong? That it doesn't cause all these issues and makes you, well, fucked up? I think it does, and I think it did, and I think it always will. Yes, people use it; it is the most used illegal drug used in the world. Why? Because of excuses like "it's natural" or "it's just a plant". I'm calling bull.
